HOW WE HAVE GROWN THROUGH THE YEARS

Our journey of rising up to the epitome of academic excellence has been a long one, albeit rewarding!

How we came to be…

The Royal Institute of Colombo was first established as a private Ltd company in 1991 and for more than three decades, the institute has diversified and developed as one of the leading educational institutes in Sri Lanka, providing international education from Nursery up to University level. In 2015, Royal Institute of Colombo (RIC), the degree division of Royal Institute Pvt Ltd was formed as a separate autonomous entity detached from the Royal Institute International Schools located in Havelock town, which is in the heart of the capital city of Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Currently RIC comprises of number of divisions:

  • London University Diploma and Degree Division,
  • Deakin University Division,
  • Information Technology Division,
  • English Language Division.

When all the divisions of the institute are taken together, there are over 3000 students and 200 teaching staff members.

Prior to 1991, Royal Institute had also gained experience in conducting classes to teach for external degree programmes of the University of Peradeniya. Therefore, RIC has experience for over 35 years’ teaching for higher education and over 25 years’ experience in conducting University of London diploma and degree programmes. The reputation gained throughout the three decades led RIC to partner with Deakin University Australia in 2012 to offer BSc Engineering, Science, Bio Medical Science and IT degrees, where the students could complete the degrees in Australia.

RIC was awarded the affiliate status by University of London in 2008 and since then UoL recognized RIC as the UoL counterpart in Sri Lanka to conduct Diploma and Degree programmes. This recognition was awarded based on the history, the number of graduates produced, world class results, qualifications of academics, library and state of the art IT facilities. Currently, RIC has a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic student and staff population studying and working in harmony. The location of RIC stipulate students of RIC all the advantages of a metropolitan campus in easy access to international information/resources centres, libraries, sports complexes etc. while also providing easy access to a wide range of cultural, entertainment and business facilities. We are currently reputed as the pioneer non-state University for University of London degrees and the leading private institution for University of London Law degree programmes.
